nbn engages JB Hunter Technology to Deliver Pilot HFC Network Technician Training Program

NBN Co has engaged JB Hunter Technology (JBHT) to complete the pilot program for HFC Network Technician training.

JBHT has worked collaboratively with nbn to ensure the program gives participants a full understanding of the HFC network, from the tap to the optical hub, and everything in between.

We have combined a theoretical classroom environment with simulated activities and field visits to the live network, to provide the students with a solid exposure to the tasks associated with HFC network maintenance.

The Network Technician training commenced on December 9 2016, participants are now undertaking field based skill reinforcement through their Delivery Partner, before completing the remainder of the training in January.

Protecting Australia's Underground Assets

Let’s face it, the headline to the right is not exactly something you want to wake up to in the Sunday paper let alone be responsible for.

In 1999 over 250,000 phone lines were blacked out in Orange, Penrith and Blacktown when a private contracting company sliced through eight optic fibre cables at Toongabbie in Sydney’s west.

Any company conducting excavations runs the risk of damaging Australia’s underground assets including telecommunications cables, gas pipes, water pipes, light sources and more.

The impact of this can be significant resulting in service interruptions, costly project delays, large damage bills, injury and even death.

These risks can be prevented through appropriate underground asset location training.

JB Hunter Technology (JBHT) delivers the two-day NULCA Underground Asset Location Course, which provides individuals with the skills and knowledge to accurately identify, locate and protect underground assets.

Individuals will learn how to use real asset location equipment using Dial Before You Dig plans.

Individuals will also receive the nationally accredited unit of competency ‘RIICCM202A – Identify, locate and protect underground services’ which can count as an elective in a Certificate II and III in Telecommunications.

Over the next three months this course will be delivered in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Newcastle and Sydney.

JBHT Approved to Deliver New NBN Courses

JB Hunter Technology has recently been granted approval to deliver two new NBN Approved Training Courses.

These are ‘Install, Commission and Maintain a Fibre NTD’ which provides individuals with the training and instruction to install, commission and maintain the NBN Co fibre Network Termination Device (NTD) and ‘Install Underground Service Drop’ which provides individuals with the training and instruction to install an underground service drop.

JBHT’s subject matter experts attended a training course in Sydney last week to learn the specific techniques for teaching these courses.
